Project 2

Module 2

The project examines and explores a 3D space, encompassing generative art to examine how the SSU building can be used to display and promote the IxD (interaction Design) Program. The final deliverables for the project includes a 30 second video showcasing the projection mapping experience on the SSU building.

Activity 1

Concrete surface outside of the S building under the bridge Initial experimentation with mapbox plugin and changing colors Surface outside of Tim Hortons as a possible interesting surface Lecture Hall inside of B125 Changing road colors inside Mapbox Surface outside marquee/SSU building Another perspective of hallway outside Tim Hortons Using project 1 for visual design and computation as experimentation for mapbox plugin Changing land color and zoomed out view of Mapbox Red wall outside J-wing building Experimentation changing greenspace color Experimentation toggling off place labels and administrative boundaries Image of the front side of the J-wing Using another image of artwork as experimentation for mapbox plugin Classroom/studio inside J-wing Changing road & transit network colors Toggling on 3d models and trees Using another image of material as experimentation for mapbox plugin Image of surface outside of studio in J-wing Using another image of tomato as experimentation for mapbox plugin Another view of SSU building Experimentatioin with terrain shading and adding layers Experimentatioin turning off depth in layers Experimentation turning off 3d models Experimentation changing intensity and color of terrain shading

Activity 2

Experimenting with mapbox by inputing data for crime statistics in Columbia in the last 30 days using circle as the style. Experimenting and changing the style to heatmap in mapbox for crime statistics in Columbia in the last 30 days. Experimenting with datasety and representing the different crimes occuring using the dataset I found online of crime statistics in Columbia in the last 30 days. Experimenting with text styles of the dataset I chose. Changing different inputs on Mapbox and selecting the waterway data from the dataset already available as a default, learning based on the lazer cutting tutorial. Attempting to just change the waterway in Mapbox in order to create a vector file, While this would still be traceable in Illustrator the grey might affect image trace. Experimented and tried to pick lines only for the vector illustration and lazer cutting. Created a globe from scratch and was able to only represent the data I needed to create the vector illustration on adobe. I wanted a clean image of Indonesia, a country in Asia. Experimented with outline to make a file based on the template. Learning to make and expand image trace in Adobe Illustrator, also cleaned up countries/islands that are not part of Indonesia Created a design and put it in the template for lazer cutting a phone stand. Started tutorial on projectioin mapping. Creating wallKey composition Creating main composition Creating the mask by using corner. Finished creating all the sides of the SSU Building. Experimenting with the shatter effect Tried different styles for the shatter effect Starting to create the mask for the animation Succeded in creating mask for one side of the building Succesfully added animation to all sides of the SSU building. Added image underneath the effect, revealing logo. Combined all layers together into preComp. Added additional masking for all doors, windows, and signs. Succesfully exported file.

Spatial Workshop 1

This is the space outside a classroom in the J building, the unique shapes of the different pannels would make a suitable and interesting addition to projection Mapping. This is the space near the Tim Hortons that showcase interior design student work, the space above and below could be integrated with projection mapping to create more interactive displays that draws users eyes. This is the red wall outside the J building on the outside corridor connected to the main building. The large space procides an interesting surface students often pass by to create something interactive.

Spatial Workshop 2

Sketch 1 of the projection mapping idea on chosen space. Utilizing ceiling as a potential surface. Sketch 1 of the projection mapping idea on chosen space. Utilizing the wall of the student showcase as a potential space for generative art and interactive floor Sketch 3 of the projection mapping idea on chosen space. Utilizing the bottom part of the student showcase as potential space as well as tiles that light up.

Projection Mapping on After Effects
The SSU building the place where students often work on assignments while engaging with their peers. The large surface area outside provides ample potential for showcasing student work with projection mapping. In this iteration I created a design highlighting the Interaction Design degree, incorporating elements that feels true to the program.
